The “Issue a part to Itself” option is normally reserved for things such as repairing a part.
Normally, a component will be issued to a part in a WO and the component and the finished part will have different part numbers.
If a part is due to be repaired, both the component and the finished part will both have the same part number. Note: This should be used with caution and it will mean that the Job Costings for those WO’s cannot be used.
The only way to do this is to do it from the Stock Batch screen and issue the stock to the relevant WO.
Note: When issuing a part to itself, the value that exists on the part in stock will flow back to WIP by virtue of issuing back to the works order. When creating the works order for the part, it will inherit all of the parts that are on the BOM at the point the works order is created.
If the user subsequently issue/kit the works order it will issue the components and hence will inherit the value of those components, so to ensure job costing is correct, remove all parts from the components list that are not required such that they are not able to be picked up by MRP etc. as demand, and that parts are not issued unnecessarily as this will affect job costing.
If issuing a part to itself then it is usually to manage a repair or to amend/rework them as part of an issue change to the drawing which then maintains its traceability.
