My sales invoices emailed from FM are being bounced back with the following error:-
1. Connection time out. or
2. The email could not be sent
The following error occurred: System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated'. The server response was 4.6.46 Client not authenticated to send email. Error: 545.4.6.140 Authentication unsuccessful, basic authentication is disabled.

Solution:
This error indicates that there is a problem with the mail account being used, and will need to be investigated by your IT team/third party IT.
The mail server may need rebooting.
