If you have set up the Auto-Numbers so that the Delivery and Release Notes are in sync it is possible for them to become out of sync if the Delivery Notes are not printed at the moment they have been delivered.
If a Sales Order is allocated and the Delivery Note is created, the Release Note will only be generated once the Delivery Note is marked as Printed. If the Delivery Note is not printed you will see the Release Note become out of sync if newer Delivery Notes are marked as Printed.

We have set up the auto-numbers for Delivery Notes and Release Notes so that they are on the same number. They have become out of sync and now the Release Note is one ahead of the Delivery Note number.
