A Bill of Materials (BOM, also known as an assembly) is a list of the materials that are required for a Works Order.
To create a BOM:
Go to the Main Menu.
Click on the Production Tab.
Select Assemblies/Bills of Material.
Type in (or press F5 and select) the relevant part number.
A new screen will be displayed.
This is where all the details can be set up
The # Column - In this column, define a ‘line number’ or listing reference (where the Part/line entry is to appear) within the list of parts/components.
Comp/Type - Component Type:
Select from:
SP - Stocked Part.
RM - Raw Material.
PA - Phantom Assembly.
Form/Source - This is only for if a Raw Material is selected. Enter the Form code or press ‘F5’. Make the selection of the Raw Material Form required from those listed on the system.
Part Number - Applies only to Stocked Parts or Phantom Assembly. Enter the required Part Number or press ‘F5’ to select the required part of the Stock Part records.
Specification/Product Group - This field is dual function
If a Stocked Part is selected the field will be populated with the Product Group associated with the part.
If Raw Material is selected the user will be required to enter the specification of the required Material or press ‘F5’ to select from the list of RM specifications listed on the system.
Component Description - There is an orange bar above the field header and is therefore multifunction.
Click on the bar to select the information preferred to see displayed.
The other options are different levels of detail that may be viewed.
Quantity of Material - This field will be populated with any quantity of material the user has specified associated with the Material Form/Dimensions when the selected Form is added to an Assembly Structure (BOM) for Quantity Required to enter the quantity of the Stocked Part or Raw Material required to manufacture/meet the assembly requirements of the New Part for which is being defined the BOM.
FI - Enables the user to define if the Part/RM is FREE ISSUE to the Assembly - choices are Y (YES) or N (NO).
AI - Enables the user to define if the Part/RM is AUTO ISSUE to any Works Order raised for the manufacture of the part for which the user is creating the Assembly Structure (BOM).
This has 10 bolts that are bought in parts and are auto issued to the BOM, some Raw Material (RM, item 5) a Phantom assembly (PA, item 6) and some subassemblies (MA, parts 2 - 4). Notice the chevron:
And that this is also made of a subassembly so it is possible to drill right down the levels.
Notice that the level number is now 2.
<F5> on there will go to the next level of the construction, to see what is required to make that particular sub-assembly.
